Church Hall

The Church Hall

During a time in which a great deal of building and regeneration had been taking place in and around the parish from about 2009 onwards, our church has made its own contribution in creating better facilities and opportunities for our community through a one year programme of refurbishment of our cold, dated, not very user-friendly church hall. It had stood us in good enough stead for 50 years but standards and expectations have changed enormously for community spaces and we had become way below standard.

A radical refurbishment of our church hall was completed in 2011 and this launched our contribution of a fine new community space, as partners in all that is going on alongside the church. You can visit the Photos section of this site for images of the opening of the refurbished hall by the newly consecrated Bishop of Stepney, the Rt. Revd. Adrian Newman in July 2011 on his first church engagement as a bishop.

At present, these are the groups which use our church hall:

Our regular users of the church hall every weekday up to 1 pm are the 'Moving on Up' group of 'Blue Skies' a group for young adults with learning difficulties (part of the range of services offered by RCHL (Redbridge Community Housing Ltd.)

We also have a number of groups offering services to the community through Leaders In Community, a local enterprise which delivers a range of popular services.

We also host services, such as the Girls' Group,  run by Poplar HARCA one of our major community partners with whom we worked closely in the refurbishment of our church hall. Clicking on this link will open the community section of the website of this major Social Housing Company which provides much of the social housing and regeneration in our parish.

Every Friday from 1pm - 4 pm Pathways Trust alternative therapy group runs a drop-in clinic offering a range of high-quality alternative therapies from highly qualified and experienced practitioners at the astonishing cost of only £7.50 per treatment!

On Tuesday evenings Cocaine Anonymous meets from 7.30 pm. Clicking on their name will open the website for Cocaine Anonymous.

Twice every week we also host the Ocean Women's Association which is extending its work of the past 20 years or so on the nearby Ocean Estate in Stepney, to this area, in bringing together Bengali and Somali women, both to meet one another and to be resourced through courses and activities. At present on Tuesday afternoons ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Langaguages) classes are run from 1-3 pm.

Our fellow Christians in Forward in Faith Ministries International have also long worshipped in our church hall and they enhance our life with their spirited and Spirit-led praise and worship.
